Othello asks if Cassio has been killed as well, and Emilia informs him that Cassio is alive.

Othello slaps Desdemona because she is not admitting to being unfaithful to him and he is getting increasingly frustrated with her. Roderigo is angry with Iago because he has been paying to help him get Desdemona, but has seen no results and suddenly finds out that Desdemona is married to Othello. Roderigo hates Othello because he was one of the suitors for Desdemona. He is still in love with Desdemona and hates Othello because she chose Othello over him. One can see why Desdemona rejected him because he is so gullible and easily duped.

Othello comes out, furious at the disorder, and fires Cassio. It happens to belong to Desdemona, stolen by Emilia on behalf of the scheming Iago. Iago tells him that he will never love him for being so stupid. Iago was up for a promotion, but Othello gave Cassio the position of lieutenant.
